In wholesale, economics are decided not just by the price per kilo but by the format. Each of our forages is available in three formats — the right choice depends on volume, storage and handling.

The three formats

  • Small bale (25 kg): priced per unit. Easy to move by hand and to dose precisely — ideal for redistributors and smaller buyers.
  • Large bale 80×90 (350 kg): priced per tonne. The lowest price per kilo, designed for high volumes and mechanical handling.
  • Fardo (300 kg = 12 small bales): priced per unit. A manageable intermediate format.

Comparing the price per tonne correctly

The most common mistake when comparing: mismatched units. Convert everything to euros per tonne:

  • Small bale 25 kg → unit price ÷ 0.025
  • Fardo 300 kg → unit price ÷ 0.3
  • Large bale 80×90 → already in €/tonne

As a rule: the larger the bale, the lower the price per tonne — in return, the demands on storage and machinery rise.

When each format pays off

  • Large bale 80×90: from high, plannable volumes with storage space and loading equipment — the most economical option per tonne.
  • Fardo: when you want more volume per unit than the small bale, but work without heavy machinery.
  • Small bale: for redistribution and flexible dosing.

Many buyers combine the formats: large bales for the bulk of the volume, small bales for flexible onward delivery.

FTL: the lever on transport costs

Sourcing becomes economical through full truck loads (FTL). A fully utilised lorry lowers the transport cost per tonne noticeably — one more reason to consolidate demand. You can model volumes and prices for different combinations in the volume calculator.

In brief

  • Large 80×90 bales are priced per tonne — the lowest price per kilo.
  • Always convert to €/tonne to compare formats fairly.
  • FTL full loads lower the cost per tonne.
